racecarldad Shop Shark Stovebolter # 765 posted 06-01-2002 11:15 PM I will offer some suggestions on getting your engine going. With the head installed and torqued install the rocker arms and push rods. Adjust the valves according to racecarl [he tells which valves to adjust on no.1 and which valves on no.6 TDC]. This will save you a lot of time and do a better job too. Did you grind the ends of the rocker arms smooth where they contact the valves? This is important. After the head is installed and valves adjusted then it is time to prime the oil system. To do this, leave the distributor out and fill the crankcase with oil. Now use a screw driver or something to turn the oil pump. This should fill the oil filter and get oil to all the bearings. While the distributor is still out put in new points and condenser and adjust the points to the proper gap. Turn the engine over to no.1 fire and line the ball on the flywheel up to the pointer. Install the distributor with the rotor pointing to no.1 terminal. Make sure the oil pump drive on the distributor engages the oil pump. Use a test light or ohm meter and connect the leads to the small wire that goes to the distributor. With the rotor pointing to no.1, rotate the distributor opposit the direction of rotation till the ohm meter doesn't read or the test light goes out. This will be real close to the proper timing. It may be just a little bit slow but it will run till you can get a timing light . I hope this will help you get your 235 running and enjoying it! -------------------- kdot em3
